from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carry On, Jeeves is a collection of ten cheerful short stories by the British-American writer PG Wodehouse , which were first published in book form in Great Britain on October 9, 1925, but had previously appeared as articles in British and American journals and magazines. In the United States, the short story collection came on October 7, 1927 on the market. The protagonists of all short stories are Bertie Wooster and his valet Jeeves .

The publication of Carry on, Jeeves was preceded by the collection of short stories The Incomparable Jeeves . The first Wodehouse novel with Jeeves and Wooster as protagonists did not appear until 1934 under the title Bertie in Wild Anticipation .

content

This collection also includes the short story Jeeves takes the helm , which tells of the first meeting between Bertram Wooster and his valet. Six of the ten short stories had previously appeared in the short story collection My Man Jeeves published in 1919 , but were partially revised for this collection. In My Man Jeeves , some of the stories were told by Reggie Pepper, a forerunner of Bertie Wooster. For two of these stories the plot structure was retained, but told as a Jeeves and Wooster story with a setting in Great Britain instead of the United States.

In addition to Aunt Agatha , who is the reason some of the short stories are set in the United States, Florence Craye , a recurring fiancée of Bertie Wooster, is mentioned for the first time ; her brother Edwin, who as a boy scout always lags behind with his good deeds; Aunt Dahlia and Milady's Boudoir magazine, which she publishes ; the neurologist Roderick Glossop and his daughter Honoria as well as Bingo and Rosie Little.
