Charavines is a French commune with 1,925 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; administratively it belongs to the arrondissement of La Tour-du-Pin and is part of the canton of Le Grand-Lemps (until 2015: canton of Virieu ). The inhabitants are called Charavinois .
geography
Charavines is located about 63 kilometers southeast of Lyon and about 33 kilometers northwest of Grenoble . The community is located on the south bank of Lac de Paladru , which drains into the Fure here . Charavines is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Pin in the north, Bilieu in the north and northeast, Chirens in the east and southeast, Apprieu in the south and southwest and Oyeu in the west.
