Vertrieu is a French municipality with 639 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of La Tour-du-Pin and is part of the canton of Morestel (until 2015: canton of Crémieu ). The inhabitants are called Vertrolands .

Vertrieu is the northernmost municipality in the Isère department. It is located about 43 kilometers east-northeast of Lyon on the Rhône . Vertrieu is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Saint-Sorlin-en-Bugey in the north and north-east, Sault-Brénaz in the east and south-east, Porcieu-Amblagnieu in the south-east, Parmilieu in the south, La Balme-les-Grottes in the south-west and Lagnieu in the west and north-west .
