Villemoirieu is located in the La Tour-du-Pin arrondissement and in the Charvieu-Chavagneux canton (until 2015: Crémieu canton ). The inhabitants are called Villemorantines .

Villemoirieu is about 25 kilometers east-southeast of Lyon . Villemoirieu is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Romain-de-Jalionas and Crémieu in the north, Dizimieu in the east and northeast, Moras , Veyssilieu and Chozeau in the south, Chamagnieu in the west and south-west and Tignieu-Jameyzieu in the west and north-west.
