Chélieu is a French municipality with 676 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; administratively it belongs to the arrondissement of La Tour-du-Pin and is part of the canton of Le Grand-Lemps (until 2015: canton of Virieu ). The inhabitants are called Billantins .

Chélieu is located about 57 kilometers southeast of Lyon and about 40 kilometers north-northwest of Grenoble . The Bourbre delimits the municipality to the east and south-east. Chélieu is surrounded by the neighboring communities
