Sermérieu is about 46 kilometers east-southeast of Lyon . Sermérieu is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Passins in the north and northeast, Morestel in the northeast, Vézeronce-Curtin in the southeast, Vignieu in the south, Saint-Chef in the southwest, Salagnon in the west and Soleymieu in the northwest.
