Vaulx-Milieu is located about thirty kilometers east-southeast of Lyon on the Bourbre River . It is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Frontonas in the north, L'Isle-d'Abeau in the east, Four in the south and Villefontaine in the west.
The A43 autoroute runs through the municipality .
