Morestel ( Occitan : Morêtel ) is a French municipality with 4469 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the Arrondissement La Tour-du-Pin and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Morestel . The inhabitants are called Morestellois (es) .
geography
Morestel is located about 50 kilometers east-southeast of Lyon . Morestel is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Passins in the north and west, Saint-Victor-de-Morestel in the east and northeast, Le Bouchage in the southeast and Vézeronce-Curtin in the south.
The Morestel airfield is located in the municipality of Passins. The former national routes 75 and 517 run through the municipality .
