Châteauvilain is a French municipality with 716 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Châteauvilain is part of the La Tour-du-Pin arrondissement and the Bourgoin-Jallieu canton (until 2015: Bourgoin-Jallieu-Sud canton ). The inhabitants are called Castelvillanois .

Châteauvilain is about 47 kilometers southeast of Lyon . Châteauvilain is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Succieu in the north and northeast, Biol in the south and east, Eclose-Badinières in the south and west and Les Éparres in the north-west.
