John Ridgefield, the owner of an aircraft factory, is working on developing a new jet aircraft that will break the sound barrier . His son-in-law and test pilot Tony Garthwaite dies while testing what estranges his daughter Susan from him. She moves in with her friend Jess, who is married to test pilot Philip Peel, who finally manages to break the sound barrier. Susan reconciles with her father and moves in again with her child.
