The Apfelbaumgrund nature reserve with a size of 5.2  hectares is located north of Meerhof in the urban area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan. The NSG is mostly surrounded by the nature reserve Siebenbuchen with red beech forest. In the northwest, the NSG border is also the city and district border. In the Paderborn district, the Marschallshagen and Nonnenholz nature reserve borders with the upper Altenau valley .

The NSG comprises a narrow, north-south running, open grassland brook valley with a natural stream. The NSG is surrounded by forest except for a narrow strip in the northwest. Most of the grassland consists of fat willow. Wet grassland and tall herbaceous vegetation as well as a narrow remnant of alluvial forest lie along the stream. Some of the grassland has fallen fallow. There are two landscaped ponds in the NSG. are the species-rich complexes.

The wet grassland area is rich in species and valuable in terms of vegetation. The NSG serves as a refuge for many plant and animal species.
