The forest nature reserve Bredelar with a size of 450.6  ha is located north of Bredelar in the urban area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The NSG has been part of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat-Area (FFH) Bredelar, Stadtwald Marsberg and Fürstenberger Wald (Natura 2000-Nr. DE-4519-306) in the European protected area system according to Natura 2000 with a size of 2,655 hectares since 2004 the nature reserve Forst Bredelar / Obermarsberger Wald , which also belongs to the FFH area Bredelar, Stadtwald Marsberg and Fürstenberger Wald , joins directly in the urban area of ​​Marsberg .
