Diemelsberg / Kolsberg nature reserve

The Diemelsberg / Kolsberg nature reserve with a size of 49.63  hectares is located west of Westheim in the urban area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerland district . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan . Partly the B 7 borders directly in the south. The park of Gut Westheim is directly adjacent to the east .

Limestone forms the subsurface of the NSG . The NSG includes a species-rich beech forest on the slopes of the Diemelsberg. In the eastern part of the NSG, known as Aspergrund, there is a young ravine forest with larger deposits of silver leaf along a stream .

The database of the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection in North Rhine-Westphalia writes about the NSG: “The value-determining factors are the plant communities of the lime-loving mixed beech forest, which connects to those of the ravine forest in shady locations. The biotope complex of biotope types, which are rare for this region, is highly representative and particularly worthy of protection in terms of the protection goal conception for the natural area. Moderate impairments can be seen from forestry. The species-rich plant communities of the mixed beech forest and the gorge forest are valuable in terms of vegetation. The area is an important stepping stone biotope in the network of beech forests along the northern slopes of the Diemel valley and is of outstanding importance. "
