Nature reserve Auf der Wiemecke
The nature reserve Auf der Wiemecke with a size of 51.58 hectares is located southwest of Obermarsberg in the urban area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1989 by the Arnsberg district government . It was again designated as a NSG in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan. To the north of the NSG lies the Lower Diemeltal nature reserve and the Hagen / Königsseite nature reserve . To the east of the NSG lies the Galgenberg / Auf dem Glindschen Grund nature reserve . The NSG is only separated from the three nature reserves by the K 65 . To the west and southwest are parts of the Bredelarer Kammer / Fürstenberger Wald conservation area and the open spaces around Giershagen conservation area to the south .
The NSG represents a part of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat-Area (FFH) water system Diemel and Hoppecke (Natura 2000-Nr. DE-4617-302) in the European protected area system according to Natura 2000 with a size of 588 ha.

The NSG is the northern slopes of the mountains Wiemecke and Calvarienberg. It is the diemel slope . The NSG consists of grassland areas with lean grassland and partly poor grassland with numerous bushes. Species such as the blackcatcher , goldenhammer and red- backed shrike breed in the hedges . There are also two deciduous forest areas in the NSG.
The area was previously used as a communal pasture ( Allmende ) by Obermarsberg for cattle grazing. In the NSG there are plants such as fingered larkspur, meadow cowslip, stately orchid, meadow cranesbill and dyer's gorse.
In the NSG grazes u. a. the association for nature and bird protection in the Hochsauerlandkreis with Red Höhenvieh .
Protection purpose of the nature reserve
- The NSG was designated for the preservation of a structure and species-rich biotope complex of the Diemel Prallhang with numerous bushes.
- For the maintenance and further development of the lean grassland in the NSG as part of the lean grassland-biotope network system in the landscape plan area.
- To protect the species-rich and partly endangered flora and fauna of the area.
- To preserve the special character and outstanding beauty of the Diemel Prallhang, which defines the landscape.
- To protect the mining relics in the NSG for reasons of regional history.
- To ensure the coherence and implementation of the European "Natura 2000" system of protected areas.
