The Dahlsberg nature reserve with a size of 4.83 hectares is located east of Oesdorf in the urban area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerland district . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan .

The NSG includes grassland areas in a north-south oriented dry valley with mainly in the edge areas with bushes. On the east side there is a steep, westward sloping embankment. Parts of the grassland are limestone grasslands . Limestone comes to light in places.

The structurally rich grassland is an important breeding and retreat area for many animal species.

In the north, west and east, fields border the NSG. The floodplain of the Dahlbach borders in the south.

The database of the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection in North Rhine-Westphalia writes about the NSG: “The lean lime lawns with their well-developed, endangered plant community determine their value.” And “The varied relief and the structuring hedges, together with the lean location, result in a highly representative and special valuable biotope complex in terms of the protection goal concept for the natural area. "

Conservation measures

The entire area of the NSG was purchased by the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation for Nature Conservation, Heritage and Cultural Preservation (NRW Foundation). The Association for Nature and Bird Conservation in the Hochsauerlandkreis (VNV) looks after the area on behalf of the NRW Foundation. A shepherd grazes the area. Since the 1990s, the VNV and the Biological Station Hochsauerlandkreis have also taken care of the NSG. In particular, blackthorn bushes and stick rashes were removed with a chainsaw and brush cutter .
