Judengrund nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Judengrund nature reserve with a size of 5.8  hectares is located southwest of Padberg in the urban area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is a beech forest area on a diabase underground and the western area is followed by spruce, black and gray alder stands. Some houses are more stocky and rotated, indicating a former coppice use points. In the forest there are small areas of rocks and rubble heaps. The tree-free rubble heaps were populated with flowering, poor grasslands.

The landscape plan explains the NSG: "Due to its structural diversity and in particular due to the species-rich block rubble heaps, the area is an important retreat for the communities of the dry and warm locations. The overriding protection objective is to prevent the open grasslands from being overgrown."

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the local forest and grassland. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
