The nature reserve Forst Bredelar / Obermarsberger Wald with a size of 480.19  ha is located west of Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan . The NSG has been part of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat-Area (FFH) Bredelar, Stadtwald Marsberg and Fürstenberger Wald (Natura 2000-Nr. DE-4519-306) in the European protected area system according to Natura 2000 with an area of ​​2,655 hectares since 2004 The nature reserve Forst Bredelar joins directly in the urban area Marsberg , which also belongs to the FFH area Bredelar, Stadtwald Marsberg and Fürstenberger Wald .
