The Ostlicher Arnstein nature reserve with a size of 8.5 hectares is located northwest of Giershagen in the urban area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan . The Wald-NSG nature reserve Südlicher Arnstein connects directly to the south-west corner of the NSG .

Area description

The NSG is a grassland area, partly with species-rich poor meadows, with bushes complexes. A Christmas tree culture 1.5 hectares is located in the northern part of the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect the species-rich grassland there. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
