Am Forstenberg nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Am Forstenberg nature reserve with a size of 0.7 hectares is located northwest of Beringhausen in the urban area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2001 with the Hoppecketal landscape plan .

Area description

In the south-western part of the NSG it is a 0.2-hectare coppice-like oak-hornbeam forest with signs of a former coppice use and a northeastern grassland area. In the grassland there are partly silicate grasslands with bushes. The entire NSG is located on a very shallow silicate floor. Because of the silicate substrate, the herb layer is poor in species. At the southern edge of the forest, a narrow band of silicate grassland stretches between the forest and the adjacent fat meadow. The southwest border is formed by a narrow ledge. In the north and west, small-scale spruce plots are included in the NSG. The biotope types that determine their value are very small and therefore exposed to edge line effects from adjacent spruce forests and fatty grassland. At the time of the survey of the area for the North Rhine-Westphalia biotope register by the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection North Rhine-Westphalia , the grassland had fallen fallow. But it has been used again for years.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect the species-rich grassland and forest there. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
