Chavanoz is a French municipality with 4685 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Chavanoz belongs administratively to the arrondissement La Tour-du-Pin and is part of the canton Charvieu-Chavagneux . The inhabitants are called Chavanoziens .
geography
The municipality is located in the extreme north-west of the Isère department. Here the Bourbre flows into the Rhone . Chavanoz is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Anthon in the north and west, Loyettes in the northeast, Saint-Romain-de-Jalionas in the east, Tignieu-Jameyzieu in the southeast, Pont-de-Chéruy in the south and Charvieu-Chavagneux in the southwest.
history
The name of the community is said to go back to the earlier settlement by the Ligurians ( Cabanosco ). An early Roman bridge over the Cherruis (today's Bourbre) can be proven archaeologically. A church Notre-Dame was founded as early as 608. Later, in the 11th century, a priory for the monks of the Île Barbe was established.
