Mark Richard Tami (* 3. October 1962 in Enfield ) is a Welsh politician of the Labor Party . He has been a Member of the House of Commons since 2001 .

Family, education and professional career

Born in Ensfield Town, Tami received his education at Enfield Grammar School . This was followed by a study of history at Swansea University . Before being elected to the House of Commons, he worked for Amicus , the second largest union in the UK until it was dissolved in 2007 . Tami is married to Sally Daniels. The two married in Bromley in 1994 and have two sons. Tami lives with his family in Llanfynydd , Wales .

Political career

After Barry Jones announced in 2001 that he no longer wanted to run for his seat in the House of Commons, Tami stood in the 2001 general election in the constituency of Alyn and Deeside as a candidate for the Labor Party. He achieved 18,525 votes or 52.3% and thus prevailed clearly against the second-placed candidate of the Conservative Party , Mark Isherwood . For the legislative period up to 2005, Tami was a member of the Northern Ireland Committee , which oversees the Northern Ireland Office . After being confirmed in office in the 2005 elections , he was appointed a member of the Joint Committee on Tax Law Rewrite Bills . This joint committee of the upper and the lower house is to simplify the task of tax legislation in the UK. On September 6, 2006, he resigned from his post as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Dawn Primarolo . The reason for this was Tony Blair's refusal to give a date for his retirement as prime minister. In 2007 he was also a short-term member of the joint committee for human rights . In the course of the cabinet reshuffle carried out by Gordon Brown in October 2008, Tami was appointed Whip . Since his re-election in 2010 , he has been a member of the selection committee and, since 2012, of the management committee .

Memberships

Tami was a member of the Trades Union Congress before his election as MP . He is involved in the Fabian Society .
