Saint-Sorlin-en-Bugey is located about 44 kilometers east-northeast of Lyon on the slopes of the Bugey on the Rhône .
Saint-Sorlin-en-Bugey is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Lagnieu in the north and west, Vaux-en-Bugey in the north, Souclin in the east, Sault-Brénaz in the south-east and Vertrieu in the south.
The former route nationale 75 (today's D122 or D1075) leads through the municipality .
