Chazey-sur-Ain is located about 40 kilometers east-northeast of Lyon in the Côtière countryside south of the Dombes am Ain , which borders the municipality to the west.
Chazey-sur-Ain is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Saint-Maurice-de-Rémens in the north, Leyment in the northeast, Lagnieu and Sainte-Julie in the east, Saint-Vulbas in the southeast, Blyes in the south, Charnoz-sur-Ain in the west and south-west, Meximieux in the west and Villieu-Loyes-Mollon in the north-west. The A42 autoroute runs through the municipality .
