Magnieu is a French municipality with 635 inhabitants (as of 2015 - after merger) in the Ain department in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the canton of Belley in the arrondissement of the same name . The residents call themselves Magnolans.

It was created with effect from January 1, 2019 by merging the former municipalities of Magnieu and Saint-Champ into a commune nouvelle of the same name . The former municipalities have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Magnieu.
