Magnieu is a village and a former French community with 495 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Ain in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belonged to the Belley arrondissement and the canton of the same name .

With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Magnieu and Saint-Champ were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Magnieu of the same name , in which the former municipalities have the status of a Commune déléguée . The administrative headquarters are in Magnieu.
