Cup stone by Magnieu
The Schalenstein of Magnieu is now in the Jardin Jean-Pierre Camus at the Bishop's Palace of Belley in the center of the Ain department in France . He comes from the neighboring municipality of Magnieu .
The stone was classified as a monument historique as early as 1920 . A second cup stone ( French Pierre à cupules ) is nearby. But Magnieu's is the more imposing of the two.
There are around 60 cup stones in France. The densest concentration is with eight stones on the Île d'Yeu in the Vendée department .
