Cup stones from Billième

The bowl stones of Billième are located around Billième in the west of the Savoie department in France . There are five of boulders created Schalensteine ( French Bloc cupulaire ) carrying all round or oval dish, from the Bronze Age are to come, and as 1939 Monuments historiques were classified.

  1. Du Rocher ( ), south of the village, two stones with a number of bowls.
  2. La Guettaz ( ), southeast of the village, carries 713 bowls. Under the stone, Joseph Tournier found a polished quartzite hammer with a chisel-shaped end.
  3. La Roche ( ), southwest of the village, is split. The main stone bears 22, the demolition nine bowls.
  4. Lachat ( ), south of the village, carries 63 bowls.
  5. Santourin ( ), northeast of the village, carries 373 bowls. During excavations in the 1970s, the remains of a sheep farm, a shepherd's hut and late Neolithic and Bronze Age finds were made.

A sixth location (Follioules; ) is located just north of the municipal boundary in the Jongieux district . There are two cup stones made from boulders. One stone has 142 bowls, the second stone has engraved signs of the cross.

There are around 60 cup stones in France. The densest concentration is with eight stones on the Île d'Yeu .
