João Carlos Brenha Alves Pereira (born May 6, 1970 in Espinho ) is a former Portuguese beach volleyball player .

Career

Brenha completed his first tournaments in 1994/95 with his long-time partner Miguel Maia and achieved top ten placements at various FIVB tournaments. At the 1996 Olympic tournament , Maia / Brenha reached the semi-finals via the losers' round, which they lost to the Americans Dodd / Whitmarsh as well as the subsequent bronze match against the Canadians Child / Heese . The following year they finished 17th at the World Championships in Los Angeles . In 1998 in Ostend and 1999 in Moscow they won their first open tournaments. At the next World Cup in Marseille they were thirteenth.

A year later they narrowly missed the bronze medal again at the Olympic tournament in Sydney with a defeat against the German duo Ahmann / Hager . In 2001 they finished ninth at the World Championships in Klagenfurt and failed at the European Championships in Jesolo one round before the semi-finals against the Swiss Heyer / Egger . They reached the semi-finals at the 2003 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro , but then had to forego the last two games due to an injury.

In 2004 in Athens they took part in the Olympic Games for the third time. This time they lost to the Swiss Heuscher / Kobel in the second round . The next two world championships in 2005 in Berlin and 2007 in Gstaad they finished in 17th place. Their careers together ended after the Grand Slam in Moscow in 2008.
