Ramón Hernández Cruz (born July 16, 1972 in San Juan ) is a Puerto Rican beach volleyball player .

Career

Hernández played his first international tournaments from 1994 to 1996 with Enrique Lopez . He went to the open tournament in Carolina three times and in 1995 in Hermosa Beach and achieved 17th place as the best result.

In 2003 he formed a new duo with Raúl Papaleo . After two unsuccessful open tournaments at the beginning, the two Puerto Ricans came 25th at the Grand Slam in Berlin . Then they reached the top ten on the World Tour for the first time in ninth place at the Stavanger Open. Then they won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo and qualified for the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro . There they reached the first main round with victories against the US duo Rogers / Scott and the Dutch Backer / Boersma as second in the group, in which they achieved another victory. It was not until the round of 16 that Papaleo / Hernández had to admit defeat to the Swiss Laciga brothers, so that they finished the tournament in ninth place.

In 2004 they got the next top ten results at the Budva and Carolina Open. After that they finished 13th in Gstaad and came 17th in some other tournaments. They also took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . In the preliminary round, after losing to the German duo Dieckmann / Reckermann, they lost the other two group games against the Swedes Berg / Dahl and the Norwegians Kjemperud / Høidalen in a tie-break. Therefore, they had to say goodbye as the bottom of the group after the preliminary round.

On the World Tour 2005, two 17th places at the Shanghai Open and the Grand Slam in Klagenfurt were her best results. At the World Cup in Berlin , Papaleo / Hernández were able to win their first game against the German Krug / Urbatzka ; after that, however, they were defeated by the Brazilians Harley / Benjamin and eliminated in the losing round against the Norwegians Gøranson / Engvik .
