The Gereonshaus in Cologne (2010)

The Gereonsklub , also Gereonsklub of artists and art lovers , was an avant-garde artists' association founded in January 1911 in Cologne , which existed until 1913. The founding members were Franz M. Jansen , Olga Oppenheimer and Emmy Worringer (1878–1961). The name is based on the 1909/1910 after a draft of the architect Carl Moritz built Gereon House , Gereonstraße 18-32, in the Olga Oppenheimer had a studio.

Jansen designed the invitation card for the opening event on January 21, 1911. In 1912 the Bonn expressionist August Macke joined. The Gereonsklub operated as an art education center and owned a painting school led by Olga Oppenheimer. Emmy Worringer and her brother, the well-known art historian Wilhelm Worringer , organized lecture programs and some exhibitions, such as the one with pictures by Franz Marc that was shown in October 1911 . The editorial community of the Blue Rider had the first stop of its traveling exhibition here in early 1912. A Paul Klee exhibition, which was arranged through Franz Marc and August Macke, took place in November 1912, at which 58 drawings and 6 watercolors were shown. Robert Delaunay's paintings were exhibited in March 1913.
