Mario-Andreas von Lüttichau

Mario-Andreas von Lüttichau (* 1952 in Munich ) is a German art historian , curator , exhibition curator and art advisor .

Life

Mario von Lüttichau studied art history at the University of Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1983. This was followed by positions as a research assistant and fellow in Munich (Prestel-Verlag, Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen), Berlin (Berlinische Galerie), Santa Monica, California ( JPGetty Center ) and Bonn (Kunstmuseum).

In 1987 Mario von Lüttichau reconstructed the Munich exhibition Degenerate Art from 1937. Since then he has published on topics such as degenerate art , provenance research and the history of collections at home and abroad. From 1991 to 2017 he was curator of the 19th to 21st century collection at the Folkwang Museum in Essen . From 1998 to 2009 he was a consultant for the art collection of the Sparkasse Essen . From 2007 to 2017 he had a lectureship at the Art History Institute of the University of Bonn for museological leadership concepts and curatorial models . He has been a member since 2010 and chairman of the board of trustees for the art collection of Franz Haniel & Cie. , Duisburg .

He initiated, developed and organized exhibitions and publications on art of the 19th century, on classical modernism, in particular on the artists of the artist community Die Brücke , the Blue Rider , the group ZERO and artists of the Informel , as well as on Ferdinand Hodler , Ernst Wilhelm Nay , Max Peiffer Watenphul , Lyonel Feininger , Oskar Schlemmer , Max Beckmann , Wilhelm Lehmbruck . Together with Tanja Pirsig-Marshall, he is the editor of the catalog raisonné on Otto Mueller (paintings and hand drawings).

After 26 years, von Lüttichau said goodbye to the Folkwang Museum Essen in 2017 and moved to the Kunsthaus Lempertz Cologne / Berlin as an expert. In September 2019, the auction house Ketterer Kunst Munich / Berlin hired him as an expert and scientific advisor.

Mario von Lüttichau is married to the curator and dramaturge Marietta Piekenbrock .
