Jay Beckenstein

Jay Beckstein (* 14. May 1951 in New York ) is an American fusion - saxophone ( soprano and alto saxophone ).

Beckenstein grew up in a musical family; his mother was an opera singer, his father a jazz fan . From the age of seven he played the saxophone. After graduating from high school, he went to Buffalo with his friend Jeremy Wall to study at the State University of New York . In 1974 he founded the band Spyro Gyra with Wall , in which he has been active ever since. In 2000 he presented an album under his own name. He also worked on other projects, such as the studio album Images and Words by the progressive metal band Dream Theater .
