Gail Castro (born November 12, 1957 in Glendale , California ) is an American volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career hall

Castro began her volleyball career in the 1970s at Crescenta Valley High School. She also played basketball there . She later graduated from California State University, Long Beach, and played as a middle blocker on the university team. After that she was active in Italy for two years.

Career Beach

Castro formed a duo with Lori Forsythe from 1987 to 1992 and completed 69 tournaments in the American series. In 1994 she took part in the FIVB World Tour for the first time with Elaine Roque . After finishing sixth in Miami and fourth in La Serena , Castro / Roque celebrated their first tournament victory in Carolina . After Castro was then sixth in Santos with Debra Richardson , she achieved three more top ten results with Roque. Only the tournament in Hermosa Beach was less successful. The other tournaments in 1995 she played with different partners. While she finished fifth in Busan with Angela Rock , she didn't get past 25th with Marla O'Hara and Lisa Arce .

1996 Castro formed a duo again with Richardson. After a fifth place in Hermosa Beach Castro / Richardson took part in the Olympic Games in Atlanta . There they lost to the Australian duo Cook / Pottharst in the second round after beating the Dutch Schoon-Kadijk / van de Ven in the first round . In the losers round they were eliminated by the Japanese Fujita / Takahashi and finished the tournament in ninth place. At the subsequent Grand Slam in Carolina, they came in 17th place.

1997 Castro took part with Gayle Stammer in the first official world championship in Los Angeles and reached the 17th place.
