Magdalena Jirak (born October 24, 1986 in Linz ) is an Austrian beach volleyball player .
Career
Jirak first played tennis before switching to beach volleyball. In 2004 she formed a duo with Kerstin Pichler and played her first open tournament on the FIVB World Tour in Milan . At the Junior World Championships in Porto Santo she came in 25th place with Natalie Pavelka . In 2005 she was in Israel with Schwaiger Stefanie European runner-up of the U20. With Pichler she took part in three other open tournaments and the Grand Slam in Klagenfurt . In 2006 Jirak / Pichler competed at the Modena Open and the Klagenfurt Grand Slam. In Mysłowice Jirak and Julia Chukwuma finished ninth in the Junior World Championships. In 2007 she missed the entire season due to a torn cruciate ligament .
In 2008 she returned to the side of Cornelia Rimser and became Austrian champion. On the World Tour, the new duo achieved a series of three 17th places in a row. The following year they played three Grand Slams and came in 25th place in Klagenfurt. She then sustained an injury to her shoulder and had to have an operation because of a cyst . Therefore, she declared her career over.
In 2012, however, she was able to play again and formed a duo with Barbara Hansel . At the national championship Jirak / Hansel reached the final. Internationally, they competed at the Grand Slam in Stare Jabłonki and the Åland Open. Jirak has been playing with Lena Plesiutschnig since 2013 . Jirak / Plesiutschnig finished seventeenth at the Anapa Open. Plesiutschnig / Jirak took part in the EM in Klagenfurt with a wildcard . They won the opening game against their compatriots Hansel / Schützenhöfer and came third in the first knockout round, where they had to admit defeat to the van der Vlist / Wesselink duo in the third EM game against a Dutch team .
Jirak also played indoor volleyball in Gmunden , Linz and Wolfsberg and was champion of the second division.
She is now a teacher at the HIB Liebenau in Graz, where she teaches exercise and sports, mathematics and sports studies.
