History of origin

The training to become an electrical appliance specialist is a training occupation for people with disabilities, regulated by the Vocational Training Act . The three-year training is carried out in industry or in state-recognized institutions for vocational rehabilitation.

The training takes place as training with the possibility of continuation. After the two-year basic training, it ends with the qualification as an electrical appliance assembler. The one-year specialist training that builds on this enables you to graduate as an electrical appliance specialist.

Work areas

Electrical appliance specialists work in particular in electronics and electrical engineering companies and, in exceptional cases, in electrical engineering companies. Here they are mainly entrusted with the assembly or installation of electrical devices or system components.

After completing their training, the professionals have to decide what they want to specialize in, taking into account the disability-related restrictions. Depending on the company, they work e.g. B. in production, assembly or customer service. For trainees who have completed their training in vocational rehabilitation facilities, a takeover is only possible in the rarest of cases.

exams

Intermediate exam and final exam

The first year of training ends with an intermediate examination in which both practical and written tasks have to be solved.

At the end of the second year of the apprenticeship, the final exam to become an electrical device assembler takes place.

final exam

The final examination for electrical appliance specialist consists, like the intermediate examination, of a practical and a written examination.

In the practical test, the participants should prepare a mechanical test piece based on a drawing in a total of 14 hours, carry out an electrical work sample and carry out switching, measuring and testing work on a training device.

The written exam examines subjects such as technology, technical mathematics, technical drawing, and economics and social studies.

If the final examination is not passed, it can be repeated twice, according to the Vocational Training Act. The training period is extended accordingly.

The exams are held by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( IHK ) in the respective chamber district.

For a trainee with a disability, examinations can be made easier in individual cases. In this way, disability-related disadvantages can be compensated. Apprentices with hearing impairments or deaf people can call in a sign language interpreter if they wish.

Credit for training

A trainee who has successfully completed his three-year training as an electrical appliance assembler can continue his training in the three-year apprenticeship as an electrical appliance specialist. The training time already completed is taken into account.
