Beginner versus winner is a game show that has been broadcast on ProSieben since October 2017 . The program is hosted by Joko Winterscheidt , and Elmar Paulke will comment on the games .

Structure of the program

In sporting duels, professional athletes, Olympic champions and world or European champions compete against amateur candidates in their favorite disciplines. So that the amateurs have a chance, they may choose one of three handicaps before the duel, which is imposed on the professional during the duel. In the past, these were, for example, swimming with a beer crate on your back, playing basketball chained together, long jump in a dinosaur costume or even heavier or manipulated sports equipment for professionals.

season 1

In season 1, the jackpot starts with € 50,000. All candidates (called beginners in the show), and finally also Joko himself, contest one after the other against the professional (called winner in the show). The show's celebrity guests then wager one of 6 set amounts on the candidate. You can choose between € 25,000, € 15,000, € 8,000, € 1,500, € 400, € 100 and each amount can only be wagered once. If the beginners win, they move into the final and the amount ends up in the jackpot. If they lose, that amount is out of the game. In the end, Joko competes in a competition. The celebrities decide in advance whether Joko will win or lose this competition. If you are correct, another € 50,000 will land in the jackpot. In the final, all candidates compete in a studio game for the jackpot of a maximum of € 150,000.

season 2

First, Joko competes against a winner. The studio audience votes beforehand on whether Joko wins or loses. The percentage of the correct result is a thousandfold and lands in the jackpot at the start. Say e.g. B. 63% Joko wins and 37% that Joko loses and Joko loses the competition, then € 37,000 land in the jackpot. Then the beginners (candidates) compete against the winners (professionals). The celebrities decide in advance whether the beginner wins or loses. If you are correct, € 5,000 will land in the jackpot. The beginner moves into the final if he wins. In the final, all candidates who have won their competition compete against each other in a studio game. The winner of this game wins the jackpot.

background

The concept of the show is based on the show idea Be It Is Expensive , which was presented by Joko Winterscheidt in the third edition of The Best Show in the World on February 4, 2017 and which performed worst of his four shows in the edition. At that time there were eight handicaps to choose from, of which the candidate could choose up to three. Each handicap had a price that was deducted from the prize money.

Winterscheidt moderates the program Beginner versus Winner without Heufer circulation, it was one of the first shows in which Winterscheidt appeared solo as a moderator. The first edition of the show took place on October 28, 2017, and almost a month later, on November 25, 2017, the second episode was broadcast.

reception

criticism

The reviews were basically positive, but there was some criticism that the show was not broadcast live and that the duels were sometimes unfair and therefore no longer exciting enough. The length of the show of around four hours and the many commercial breaks were also reasons for negative criticism.

Christian Düringer from Welt Online has a rather positive opinion: " Beginner versus winner is expandable, but a format with potential, and Joko can rekindle the nation's campfire in the best moments."

Manuel Nunez Sanchez from Oddsmeter.de describes the show as a success. He compares beginner versus winner with previous successful Saturday evening shows: "In some places a little comes up" Wetten, dass ..? "Mood, in others one feels like" Schlag den Raab "or" Klein gegen Groß " ( small versus large ), a little" duel around the world "atmosphere naturally also wafts through the studio."

Anja Francesca Richter from the online magazine DerWesten judged: "A challenge for professional athletes delivers high tension".
