Michelle Stiekema (born November 21, 1989 in Groningen ) is a Dutch beach volleyball player . Her brother Jon Stiekema is also a professional in this sport.

Career

Stiekema and her partner Daniëlle Remmers became U18 European Champion. A year later, the young Dutch women won the U19 World Cup in Mysłowice . In 2008 she reached the final of the U21 World Cup in Brighton with Sophie van Gestel . Then Stiekema / Remmers achieved two seventh places at the Open tournaments in Dubai and Phuket . At the World Cup in Stavanger they came third in the group in the first main round and lost to the Americans Branagh / Youngs . Then they lost to the U21 World Cup in Blackpool only in the final. In 2010 they parted ways.

At the Marseille Open, Stiekema competed for the first time with her new partner Rimke Braakman . In 2011 the duo won the U23 European Championship in Porto . In August the Dutch played at the European Championships in Kristiansand , where they lost 2-1 to the new European champions Cicolari / Menegatti in the round of 16 . At the EM 2012 in their own country , Braakman / Stiekema reached 17th place. In 2013, Stiekema played alongside Jolien Sinnema . At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki, Sinnema / Stiekema were eliminated after the preliminary round despite a victory over the English Dampney / Boulton . Since 2015 Stiekema has formed a duo again with Daniëlle Remmers , mainly at national tournaments. At the World Cup in their own country, Remmers / Stiekema were eliminated after the preliminary round despite a victory over the Argentines Gallay / Klug .
