Hedemora is the capital of the Swedish municipality of Hedemora in the province of Dalarnas län and the historical province of Dalarna . In 2015, the place had 7371 inhabitants on an area of 582 hectares.
In the Middle Ages , the place where Hedemora is today was called Henemora and was on a trade route from central Sweden to Kopparberget (today's Falun ). For this reason Hedemora received market privileges in 1446 and finally in 1459 city rights. The city is therefore the oldest in Dalarna.
Teaterladan in Hedemora is part of the European Route Historic Theaters .
Hedemora lies between the lakes Brunnsjön and Hofran and about two kilometers from the mouth of the Dalälven in the latter.
