Kopparbergslagen encompasses the landscape around the mountain Stora Kopparberget (translated "Great Copper Mountain"), an outstanding testimony to the Swedish industrial history. In 2001 this area was added to the World Heritage List .

Copper has been mined at Tiskasjöberg (today Stora Kopparberget ) since the 9th century . Gradually, the city of Falun emerged near the mine and the region became Sweden's most important industrial area in the 17th century. The surroundings of the city and the mine were used for copper production and have numerous evidence of this industrial heyday. From the 18th century the importance of mining declined. In 1992 the last shot was blown and the pit closed.
