Food Not Bombs (FNB) is an international movement that originated in Boston , USA in 1980 . FNB groups worldwide collect food from markets and producers that is no longer suitable for sale. This is usually used to prepare vegetarian and vegan food , which is distributed to passers-by, homeless people , tourists, etc. in public places . Since collecting and receiving donations happens without the permission of the authorities, such groups are often criminalized.

The aim is not to be an alternative feeding the poor , but to question the capitalist value principle on the basis of easily comprehensible relationships (here the destruction of usable food while hunger in the world and locally) .

There were (and still are) anarcho-punks who founded FNB groups, as the unconditional help and criticism of capitalism corresponds to the anarchist practice they practiced.

The (anarcho) punk band MILLIONS OF DEAD CORPS (MDC) released a single record in 1994 called "Bombs not Food", in which they criticized the criminalization of the FNB groups by the authorities and in which they ironically Take the view of the authorities.

The anarcho-syndicalist FAUD (section in Munich) also helped people with FNB groups and even wanted to set up a goulash cannon, but this would have contradicted the punk "sector" and also the vegetarianism and veganism of the movement and was therefore not set up.

Keith McHenry (who can also be seen on the cover of the above-mentioned MDC single record) and C. T. Butler , who are also authors of the book "Food Not Bombs", are currently still active founders .

In Germany there are currently active groups in Cologne , Düsseldorf , Mönchengladbach , Bonn and Lübeck . In Austria there are groups in Vienna and Graz .
