Hrvoje Horvat (born December 16, 1977 in Bjelovar , Yugoslavia ) is a former Croatian handball player and today's coach and beach handball player . In his active career he was mainly used on the left backcourt position. With the Croatian national beach handball team, he became world and European champion.

Career

Horvat started playing handball at RK Partizan Bjelovar before moving to RK Badel in 1862 Zagreb , where he was twice Croatian champion. Further stations were initially RK Medveščak Zagreb , the Belgian club Initia HC Hasselt , again RK Zagreb and the German regional league team DHK Flensborg . After scoring 107 goals in 13 games, he moved to the Bundesliga for SG Kronau / Östringen after half a year . After the end of the season he joined the Swiss club SG Stans-Zentralschweiz and ended his career in Croatia with RK Dubrava .

Horvat started his coaching career in Dubrava in 2008. He remained the club's coach for over eight years and also became the national coach of the Croatian junior national team in 2012. In November 2016 he moved to RK NEXE Našice , which he still trains today. From April 2017 to March 2018 he was assistant coach of the senior national team under Lino Červar and took part with her in the 2018 European Championship in his own country.

As an active player, Horvat played 68 international matches for the junior national team and at least 16 for the senior national team of Croatia. He was also a national beach handball player and became world champion in Cádiz in 2008 and European champion in Larvik in 2009 .

Personal

Horvat is married and has a daughter and a son. His father, who is also called Hrvoje , became Olympic champion with Yugoslavia in 1972.
