Lino Červar [ ˈliːnɔ ˈtʃɛrʋar ] (born September 22, 1950 in Delići near Vrsar , Croatia) is a handball coach from Croatia and a member of the Croatian Parliament (Sabor) . He was a long-time coach of the Croatian men's national handball team . In July 2010 he resigned as national coach. From 2009 he coached the Macedonian team RK Metalurg Skopje . From 2016 to March 2017 he also coached the Macedonian men's national handball team . On March 18, 2017, Červar was again the coach of the Croatian men's national handball team called.
Life
Červar graduated from the Pedagogical Academy in Pula . Since December 22, 2003 he has been a member of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) . He has also had Macedonian citizenship since December 2012.

Lino Červar won the Croatian Premier League with RK Zagreb in 2001 and 2002 . With Papillon Conversano he was Italian champion and cup winner in 2003. When he returned to Zagreb, he won the double every year from 2005 to 2009 . In the 2004/05 EHF European Cup Winners' Cup, he was only defeated in the final to Ademar León . From 2009 he coached the up-and-coming Macedonian club RK Metalurg Skopje . There he won the championship in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014 and the trophy in 2010 and 2011. He led Metalurg to the quarter-finals in the EHF Champions League 2012/13 and 2013/14 . From the summer of 2018 until the end of 2018 he trained again for RK Zagreb.
National team
As a coach of the Italian national team, Červar qualified for the men's handball world championship in 1997 in Japan and the 1998 European handball championship in Italy. He won the 2003 World Cup in Portugal with the Croatian national handball team and once led Croatia to gold at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . Because of his success, he was nicknamed "Mago di Umago" (The Magician of Umag ). In the final of the 2005 World Cup in Tunisia they lost to the Spaniards and became vice world champion. At the 2008 European Championships in Norway , Croatia just lost to Denmark and became vice European champion. At the home world championship in Croatia , he again failed to win the world championship title with his team. He and his team lost the final against France 24:19. At the 2010 European Championships in Austria, his team had to admit defeat to France in the final.
