Thomas Bauer (born January 24, 1986 in Vienna ) is an Austrian handball goalkeeper .

Career

Bauer started playing handball at Vöslauer HC at the age of ten. With the start of the 2003/04 season, he then ran a sponsorship license for the Fivers Margareten handball club before the Viennese finally signed him in 2006/07 . From 2009/10 the handball goalkeeper played for TV Korschenbroich and for one year for HSG FrankfurtRheinMain . From 2011/12 to 2012/13, Bauer was under contract with TV 1893 Neuhausen .

For the 2013/14 season Thomas Bauer moved to TBV Lemgo . In the 2015/16 season he was under contract with the French club Istres Ouest Provence. In summer 2016 he moved to Pays d'Aix UC . In the 2017/18 season he was under contract with the French first division team Massy Essonne Handball . In January 2018, the goalkeeper switched to ØIF Arendal in the Norwegian Postenligaen, where he signed a contract until the end of the season. In October 2018, Bauer signed a contract with FC Porto that will run until the end of the season. In 2020 the goalkeeper signed a contract with AEK Athens .

Thomas Bauer has played 151 international matches for the Austrian national team . He took part in the 2014 European Championship and the 2018 European Championship for the ÖHB .

Bauer's wife Laura Bauer plays handball for the French club Handball Plan de Cuques.
