IK Sävehof (Idrottsklubben Sävehof) is a Swedish handball club from Partille , a district of Gothenburg . Both men's and women's sections play in the Swedish Elitserien for men and women .
The association has currently approx. 2000 members, distributed u. a. to four adult teams, 90 youth teams, 160 coaches and 350 officials as the largest handball club in the world.
Every year the club organizes the Partille Cup , the largest youth handball tournament in the world.
Men's department
history
The club was founded on August 20, 1950. For a long time, Sävehof was overshadowed by its big neighbor Redbergslids IK , who dominated the elite series and signed the best youth players in Gothenburg.
At the end of the 1980s, however, the club increasingly caught up in the elite series. In 1989 Sävehof was named “Team of the Year” by the Swedish National Sports Association, and in 1993 they made it to the final of the Swedish championship for the first time, but lost to their rival Redbergslid. In the following years, the club began to focus more on youth work, and then produced well-known players such as Johan Petersson and later Kim Andersson and Jonas Larholm . After a brief slump and a few years in the second division, the club rose again in 2001 to the first division; In 2004 the club won the Swedish championship for the first time. However, as a result, many of their own children migrated to other, financially better equipped clubs in Europe. In the EHF Challenge Cup 2013/14 Sävehof defeated Metaloplastika Šabac in the final in Gothenburg with 37:26 and won his first international title.

history
Like the men, the women’s department has long been overshadowed by other clubs. However, they also benefited from the (financial) strength of the Herren.Team; the women's team has won the Swedish championship 14 times, most recently in 2019. In the 2007/08 EHF Champions League season, Sävehof u. a. to 1. FC Nürnberg .
