There he was Swedish champion in 2005 and runner-up in 2006. In 2006 he joined the German MT Melsungen ; there, however, he did not meet expectations and barely got a chance, so that he moved to HBW Balingen-Weilstetten in summer 2008 . In June 2009 he signed a contract with TSV Dormagen . After a season in Dormagen, he moved to the Norwegian first division club IL Runar Sandefjord. For the 2011/2012 season he was signed by the Austrian first division club Union Leoben . After Balomenos played for the Greek club AEK Athens the following season and won the championship, he joined the Austrian first division club Sparkasse Schwaz Handball Tirol in the summer of 2013 . In March 2014, the contract was terminated by mutual agreement.
Spyros Balomenos has played over 120 international matches for the Greek national handball team. At the 2004 Olympic Games , his country reached the quarter-finals; at the men's handball world championship in 2005 in Portugal, he finished sixth.
