AIK handboll

AIK Handboll is the name of the handball section of the Swedish club AIK (Allmänna Idrottsklubben) from Solna .

The association has around 260 members in 20 teams (as of 2007).

The handball section of the AIK was founded in 1943 on the initiative of Nils-Yngve Bolling as a pure men's handball club. It first existed until 1980, with the team becoming Swedish champions in 1951, and currently since the re-establishment in 2003, also with a women's team, on the initiative of Jan-Erik Pettersson and Per-Arne Jonssons.

Well-known players include Kjell Jönsson ( world champion 1954 , world champion 1958 ) and Lennart Ring ( world champion 1958 ).

After serious economic problems in the late 1970s, the game was set, after the 1979/1980 season, the team was taken over by Täby HBK .

In 2003 gaming operations were resumed. The men's team started in Division 1 norra . The team achieved promotion to the Allsvenskan , Sweden's second highest division. After the 2007/08 season, the club's board of directors decided to withdraw from Division 1 and start again in Division 3 Östsvenska Södra.

In 2018, after the withdrawal from Ricoh HK , AIK Handboll accepted the vacancy in the Handbollsligan .

The women's team, founded in 2003, plays in Division 2 Östsvenska Södra.

The club plays its home games in the 1,800-seat Solnahallen as well as in Råsta Park, Tallbacka and Västertorp. The club colors are black and gold.
