Allsvenskan (handball)

Allsvenskan is the name of the second Swedish handball league. It is organized by the Swedish association Svenska Handbollförbundet.

Until the introduction of the Elitserien , the Allsvenskan was Sweden's top division.

Since the 2007/2008 season, the Allsvenskan has been played by 14 teams each, each playing two games against each other. Up to and including the 2008/2009 season, the two teams rose to first and second place in the Elitserien and third and fourth place played with the teams in 11th and 12th place in the Elitserien relegation games. The last two of the Allsvenskan were relegated to Division 1 . From the 2009/2010 season onwards, only the first placed will be promoted directly to the Elitserien, the teams in positions 2 to 4 of the Allsvenskan will play relegation games in the Kvalserien with the teams in positions 11 to 13 of the Elitserien, the three best teams of this relegation play in the first division in the following season. The last two places in the Allsvenskan are relegated to the third division, Division 1, while the teams in 11th and 12th place play relegation games with teams from the third division.
