Rúnar Kárason (born May 24, 1988 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic handball player .
Career
Rúnar Kárason played for the Icelandic club Fram Reykjavík since he was six . From there he went to the Füchsen Berlin in the handball Bundesliga in 2009 . With the foxes, Rúnar Kárason got a two-year contract, although he was previously courted by Danish and Spanish clubs. From September 2010 Rúnar Kárason had a second game right for the Bergisch HC . In the 2011/12 season he then played exclusively for the BHC; then he went to TV Großwallstadt and, after it was relegated from the Bundesliga at the end of the 2012/13 season, he moved to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen , where he signed a one-year contract. On November 19, 2013 he switched to league competitor TSV Hannover-Burgdorf with immediate effect, where he initially received a contract until the end of the season, which was extended by two years in February 2014. In the summer of 2018 he joined the Danish first division club Ribe-Esbjerg HH .
Rúnar Kárason also plays in the Icelandic national team . In the 2008/09 season he was elected to the All-Star Team in Iceland . At the European Championships in 2012 and 2014 he reached 10th and 5th place respectively.
