Christian Berge (born July 19, 1973 in Trondheim , Norway ) is a Norwegian handball coach and former handball player . He is 1.89 m tall. Christian Berge is married and has one son.
Berge, who last played for the Danish club Århus GF and previously played for the Norwegian men's handball team, mostly played on the back center .
He started playing handball at Charlottenlund Spkl, later he played at Trondheim HK. In 1995 Berge made his debut for Stavanger Håndball in the Norwegian Elite Series; In 1999 he moved to SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the 1st handball Bundesliga . With the Fördestädtern he won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2001 , the DHB Cup in 2003 , the double from the German championship and DHB Cup in 2004 and the DHB Cup again in 2005.
At the end of October 2004 Berge was diagnosed with a malignant cancer of the cervical lymph nodes, a so-called lymphoma . After 20 treatments, he made his comeback in January 2005; in March, however, the setback occurred: a tumor recurrence was discovered in the groin area. This time Berge had to undergo chemotherapy ; in December 2005 he returned to the floor.
Due to the after-effects of his illness, Berge said that the Bundesliga was now too exhausting for him. In the summer of 2006 he went to Århus GF in Denmark, where he ended his career a year later and then worked there as an assistant coach. In 2008 he took over the coaching position at the Norwegian first division club Elverum Håndball . In his first season he led Elverum into the Norwegian Cup final, but failed there on IL Runar . In 2012, 2013 and 2014 Elverum won the championship under his leadership. From the summer of 2013, he also took on the role of assistant coach for the Norwegian national junior team. Since February 2014 he has been the national coach of the Norwegian senior team. In November 2014, he left his job at Elverum Håndball.
Christian Berge has played 63 international matches for the Norwegian men's national handball team . His greatest success with the national team was 8th place at the 2000 European Handball Championship.
