Gustave Klotz (born November 29, 1810 in Strasbourg ; † January 24, 1880 ) was a French architect .

Gustave Klotz studied under Léon Vaudoyer and Henri Labrouste in Paris and went to Rome in 1831 , where he worked for several years. After returning home, he was appointed chief architect of the Lower Rhine and later the cathedral builder of the Strasbourg Cathedral .

From then on he devoted himself exclusively to the restoration of this building. Before Klotz went to work, he took a trip to the Orient to study the structures that could offer analogies with the oldest parts of the minster, then restored the choir first and removed the annoying additions.

The destruction caused by the bombardment of Strasbourg was repaired by him in a few years. After the restoration was completed, he undertook the decoration of the choir and the triumphal arch gable. His last work was the bronze doors of the main portal of the facade .
